Four weeks into our journey through the rich myriad of special places across our planet given World Heritage Site status by UNESCO. We have travelled to the African continent, Pacific Islands, the Caribbean, and the Near East. Our sense of place film links include original historical footage of communities displaced from Bikini Atoll by the US Navy in the 1940s, and of local people excavating the early human cave sites at Mount Carmel, under the direction of Dorothy Garrod.
During our travels we are acknowledging the global fight against Covid-19. As of today, the total number of confirmed cases in the 29 countries visited is 344,926 (UN World Health Organisation). All but 2 countries have reported cases, and all but 4 at least 1 death. 14,666 people are known to have died in these countries to date, although even a brief review of the statistics suggests real numbers are distorted due to differential access to testing.
