Electric Pioneer: John Peter Gassiot

We talk about the importance of invention, innovation, creativity, enterprise and clean growth in the social and economic recovery of our country, post-Covid. But these are just words which mean nothing without the people behind them, who have the ability to blend curiosity with vision, belief, knowledge and determination.

This story, about a little-known early experimenter with electricity, reminds us that a global phenomenon we now take completely for granted, came from a meeting of minds of people living across centuries; some of whom lost their lives to a venture thwart with lethal danger.

Written by Isle of Wight – based guest contributor, Nick Minns, it is also an opportunity to give a shout to the Isle of Wight Walking Festival, which will return in Spring 2021.
