But these are just words which mean nothing without the people behind them, who have the ability to blend curiosity with vision, belief, knowledge and determination.

This story, about a little-known early experimenter with electricity, reminds us that a global phenomenon we now take completely for granted, came from a meeting of minds of people living across centuries; some of whom lost their lives to a venture thwart with lethal danger.
