Expedition to Undiscovered Lands
50.7300° N, 1.1633° W

Entry for 20th October…year unknown
Recorders: EP/ PP/ Bennelong

We have come to the island in pursuit of a study of local ethnography. So far, we have met one local – the inventor of a type of tin opener – a pair of Americans, and an Australian lady doctor. And today, a German! Henry and Bennelong were out this morning, trying to find a safe route up the hill ahead of us, when a mad figure with a dark complexion, wild hair and a huge, bushy beard came out of the fog and accosted them. He was a Socialist, a ‘Mr Ramboz’, and he harangued them for their work for us, and called us Imperialists! Us! I think Henry and Bennelong were relieved when he disappeared down the hill into the mist, singing ‘The Red Flag’ to the jaunty tune of ‘The White Cockade’, although Bennelong has already raised the question of an increase in his pay.
