I could discern a most distinct smell through the fog today – roasted peanuts! I remember as a girl the excitement when Lord Sanger’s Circus arrived in town. And when mother would take us to see the evening show, our treat would always be a bag of roasted Old Virginian Peanuts. So today I followed the smell through the fog, and on a street corner found a young man with a barrow. He was an American – what a variety of people we have met here! And once we worked out a fair exchange between my coins and his price in cents, I walked away with four bags. We were happy in our camp this afternoon!
