In the corner of a churchyard in the New Forest village of Brockenhurst you can find a Commonwealth War Cemetery containing the graves of 93 New Zealand soldiers. All gave the ultimate sacrifice during World War I, dying of wounds or illness at the New Zealand General Hospital No. 1 based close by.
This story has been written by expert local historian, Clare Church, who made her own journey to Aotearoa New Zealand in search of the stories of these men. This research is published in her book, New Zealand Graves at Brockenhurst, and we are delighted to share some of its rich content on The Earth Museum.
