Green Leaf of Empire: a Virginian river and English island

4000 geographic miles of ocean separate the Nansemond River and its people from the Isle of Wight, yet their histories became entwined during the C17th, when the first English colonists arrived at a place they called Jamestown on the east coast of North America.

Green Leaf of Empire tells a story around this entanglement centred on two characters, John Goodrich and Robert Shedden, Virginian tobacco plantation owners and Bristol merchants that eventually retired to this English island.
