Hoa Hakananai’a Moai

Welcome to the first Guest Object Story on The Earth Museum, prepared by Max Robertson. Our vision is to enable anyone anywhere to become a Global Storyteller, like Max, and create content for The Earth Museum.

Max is an IT specialist living in Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand. He is a keen traveller, and participated in the research trip to Indonesia studying Alfred Russel Wallace’s collecting journey.

In 2017, Max briefly visited Rapa Nui (Easter Island) to discover more about the entangled histories of this beautiful island and its people, situated in the remotest reaches of the Pacific Ocean.

He became fascinated by the story of Hoa Hakananai’a Moai, an object now on display at the British Museum in London.

If you are interested in becoming a Global Storyteller, please contact The Earth Museum at enquiries@theearthmuseum.co.uk. We would love to hear from you.
