Shipwrecks of the Atlantic Ocean – Shadows of the Deep

Over the last 5 months, The Earth Museum has been providing work placement experience for students studying at the University of Winchester interested in remote working opportunities. Saman Ishfaq is currently studying for a Masters in Cultural Heritage and Archaeological Resource Management, and has been working with us to research shipwrecks of the Atlantic Ocean in the C18th. As part of this work, Saman has produced a digital interactive map of a selection of wrecks she looked into, all wrecked in the year 1773. She has also written a fictional short story inspired by one of these wrecks, New Britannia, a ship carrying kidnapped African people from the African West Coast across the Atlantic Ocean to a life of slavery in North America. You can discover her story, Shadows of the Deep, and digital interactive map on our World of Stories.
