Remembering: Joseph Alexander Wilmerdinge Peterson

100 years ago this month, Lance Corporal Joseph Alexander Wilmerdinge Peterson died of injuries sustained on the battlefield during World War 1. In this week’s story, we discover more about a fascinating life which began in the Caribbean during the late C19th.

Our story also celebrates the beginning of Black History Month 2020 in the UK. Founded by Ghanaian-born Akyaaba Addai Sebo in 1987, after visiting America, this event has been held annually ever since. It has become a powerful advocate for the sharing of Black history 365 days a year in mainstream education, museums and other public settings.
